Signing of the Security Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Italian Republic on the Mutual Protection of Classified Information

The Security Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Italian Republic on the Mutual Protection of Classified Information was signed at ORNISS Headquarters on 6 April 2005.

The signatory parties of the document were: on behalf of the Government of Romania, Secretary of State, Prof. dr. MARIUS PETRESCU, Director General of ORNISS, and on behalf of the Government of the Italian Republic , Prefetto EMILIO DEL MESE, Director of the National Security Authority.

The signing ceremony was attended by experts of ORNISS, of the Romanian Designated Security Authorities and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as by representatives of the National Security Authority of the Italian Republic.

The Agreement with the Italian Republic is the first security agreement signed by Romania with a member state of the North-Atlantic Alliance, after its accession to NATO.

In their speeches on this occasion, the heads of the National Security Authorities of the two states expressed their confidence that this agreement will offer a very favorable framework for the development of the cooperation between Romania and the Italian Republic , both in the Euro-Atlantic context and at bilateral level.
